Menopause

Although this website is mainly concerned about thyroid problems, I want to talk about menopause for a moment.

Because thyroid problems are largely due to iodine deficiency which is made worse with age reduction in output, there is a large group of women who are old enough to experience under active thyroid output AND declining estrogen production.

Basically, if you over 40 then you already have some thyroid problems and are just beginning to get your first taste of menopausal symptoms (or pre-menopausal).

By the time you are 50, you should be well into the menopausal phase.

What is menopause?

Menopause is defined as the point when your periods cease. Physiologically, your ovarian production of estrogen has declined to the point where the uterus is no longer being stimulated with enough sex hormones to make tissue changes worthwhile to shed for a period.

What do you feel during menopause?

There are three primary symptoms of menopause:

  • Hot flashes
  •
  • Night sweats
  •
  • Vaginal dryness

If you have any ONE of those then you are ESTROGEN deficient. You may still be having periods and you may not be officially in menopause, but your body is telling you that your estrogen levels are dropping.

For a excellent website reference on menopause and menopausal symptoms go to:

www.1-Menopause.com

What is the solution to this? It is actually quite simple. Replenish with bio-identical estrogens. Not Premarin. Not PremPro. You must use BIO-IDENTICAL estrogens.

What about cancer risk?

Premarin and PremPro and the other drug company brands are NOT bio-identical. They are foreign and considered by the body to be invaders. No wonder they cause significant problems and side effects (remember the Women’s Health Initiative Study back in 2003?)!

Bio-identical hormones, even the estrogens, should not cause any increase in cancer risk. Period. Why? Look at this from the Creator’s point of view: If high estrogens (or progesterone) were to cause cancer, then why don’t we see an epidemic of cancers in young women or pregnant women who are experiencing sky high estrogen and progesterone levels?

The answer is we don’t. We only see the cancers in women with significant sex hormone deficiencies of one hormone versus another. This is especially true of progesterone deficient women. This is why I jokingly say to put progesterone in the water supply. Migraine headaches and PMS would disappear overnight.

Unopposed Estrogens

Having said that, we do recommend that you take a progesterone (bio-identical) with your estrogen supplementation. Why? To keep your estrogen from being “unopposed”. We don’t want to create too much of an imbalance with estrogen with progesterone.

What if you have had a hysterectomy? Do you still need progesterone?

Yes. Doctors continue to get this wrong. They were taught the wrong approach and continue to espouse bad advice.

Every one of your trillion or so cells has receptors for all hormones, including estrogen and progesterone. This means that your skin, brain, finger nails, heart, and eyeballs have progesterone receptors, too.

Just because your uterus has been removed does not mean that every other organ in your body should be forgotten. When you take estrogen you “oppose” it with progesterone regardless of whether you have a hysterectomy or not.

Bio-Identical estrogen without a prescription

I do have a recommendation of a bio-identical estrogen product you can use for menopausal symptoms WITHOUT having to hassle with a doctor’s prescription. I suggest you read about it on the menopause website:

www.1-Menopause.com

The product is called Estro500. It is a bio-identical estrogen cream that contains a combination of estradiol and estriol. The best part is that because it is part of a facial cream, you don’t need a prescription for it. For more information concerning Estro500, go to:

www.1-Menopause.com

More good news about this product is that one jar should last you 48 days, nearly 7 weeks, if you use one scoop at night. At that rate, it only costs about $19 per month. We have been using this for quite some time with good success.

Black Cohash and phyto-estrogens just don’t work

Finally, there is a huge marketing push regarding plant phyto-estrogens like black cohash. Let me say that it is impossible (other than placebo effect) for any phyto-estrogen to have any effect on the human body.

All phyto-estrogens are completely inactive in the human body. They may do wonders for plants but have nothing to do with human estrogen. For an entertaining article on black cohash click here.
